pieminister newsletter March 2007
Pretty impressive eh? At some point on Tuesday the 30th January, we made our one millionth pie. That's a lot of handmade gourmet pies. If they were all lined up they'd be as long as 11518 London buses or 1333 football pitches or 27500 elephants. They'd weigh as much as 36 JCBs or 60 Tyrannosaurus Rexs. It would take 100 John Prescotts 257 days to eat them all (that one was made up). So a million thank yous to all the hard-working chefs in our (very busy) kitchen. I bet their hands hurt!
2007 has barely begun and already Pieminister has opened two new shops! One in the Covered Market in Oxford and one in Hanley in Stoke-on-Trent. Both are doing splendidly, with pies and sides flying out of the cabinets and into tummies left, right and centre. If you're in the area, pop in and say Hi.
You can now get a delicious pieminister pie with our famous mash, minty M'peas and groovy at Kempton Park Racecourse www.kempton.co.uk and Warwick Race Course www.warwickracecourse.co.uk. We have developed our PMobile (our fab pie and mash shop on wheels) which can deliver pies to hungry race goers across the country.
Spring has sprung and with it two new seasonal pies have arrived.

Poussin boots: free range chicken, pancetta, pearl onions, prunes, red wine & masala (Italian liquor, not the curry spice!).

Arriba banditos!: butternut squash, black eye beans, chipotle chilli, cheddar cheese, and mango.

These eagerly anticipated specials are absolutely delicious and packed full of flavour. They are available to buy from all our PM outlets from the 7th of March.
Pieminister will be collaborating with The Chickenshed Theatre during their forthcoming production of Vanity Fair. Hot fresh pies and cakes will be available for all the audience (to eat ... not throw!). The performance will be an 'entertaining cabaret-style celebration of social diversity', and audiences will be invited to eat, drink and be merry. Sounds like my kind of evening. For bookings and show times go to www.chickenshed.org.uk.

While we are at it (supporting exciting new talent), we have also decided to help out our favourite new Bristol band Babyhead www.babyhead.co.uk. They will be playing various dates across the UK and Ireland over the next few months and then will be busy on the festival circuit... as will we. Look out for them.
Hoorah for Kate! She's our new Customer Accounts Manager. She's only been here a month and is already doing a marvellous job of looking after all our wholesale customers. Her favourite pie thus far is the Chicken of Aragon.
With everyone working so darn hard lately, it was a tough decision and we just couldn't decide between two especially outstanding employees. So the award went to both of them; Marcin our Pastry Chef (who won in December as well incidentally), and Rusty, who has valiantly taken on the role of Chief Pie Packer recently.
The Fromagerie on the High Street in Malmesbury, Wiltshire has been going for over 15 years and specializes in fine cheeses and local produce, as well as our pies. They're jolly nice chaps too so do pop along and say hello if you're in the area.
Which is the most environmentally friendly vessel to drink from? Ceramic? Paper? Or Plastic? The answer is not as obvious as you might think, for the plastic cup racks up the least energy and water consumption to produce. In fact, you would have to use a ceramic cup at least 640 times before it would equal a plastic one. So we've come to the conclusion that it's probably best to use plastic cups and get them recycled. Save a Cup www.saveacup.co.uk will take away your used plastic cups for you and do just that.
